APPLICATIONS
Automobiles
Seat belt

A magnet keeps the contact normally ON. When a metal fitting is placed between the reed switch and magnet, the magnetic field is interrupted and the contact goes OFF.
- Detection method
- Position detection
Air Bags

Detects impact during a collision by magnet movement.
- Detection method
- Shock detection
Home electronics
Security Sensor

Sensor detects movement of magnet due to opening/closing of windows and doors.
- Detection method
- Position detection
Gas Meter

In a gas flow rate sensor, a proximity switch is turned ON/OFF by the movement of a magnet in the flow rate detection section. The reset button turns the proximity switch ON/OFF using the magnet when the button is operated.
- Detection method
- Rotation detection
Health and leisure equipment
Exercise Machines

Sensor detects number of tire rotations.
- Detection method
- Rotation detection
Pedometer

Detects oscillating motion when walking, based on magnet movement.
- Detection method
- Oscillating motion detection
Pachinko (Japanese Pinball) Machines

A magnet keeps the contact normally ON. When a pachinko ball (which is a magnetic body) passes through, the magnetic field is interrupted and this turns the contact OFF.
- Detection method
- Passage detection

Reed Relays [Semiconductor Testers]
![Reed Relays [Semiconductor Testers]](../../images/applied/img_semiconductor-tester.png)
Reed relays are used for measurement circuit switching in semiconductor testers. In a reed relay, a coil is wrapped around the outside of a reed switch, and the switch is actuated by energizing the coil.
- Detection method
- Circuit control
Detection method
Fluid level detection

Detects vertical movement of a ring magnet due to an increase or decrease in the fluid level of the measured object.
Rotation detection

As the impeller rotates due to fluid pressure, a magnet rotates also, and a contact goes ON/OFF.
